The Belfry strengthens ties with Beam through key appointments

The Belfry Hotel and Resort has announced that Katie Niland, commercial director, and Debbie Collins, account director, have accepted leadership positions within industry association Beam.

Katie Niland joins the Beam board of directors, bringing nearly 20 years of hospitality experience to help shape industry discussions and oversee development in areas such as industry exhibitions.

Beam is one of the UK’s “leading” trade associations for the business events, accommodation, and meetings industry.

Formerly known as the HBAA, the organisation champions education, best practice, and collaboration while driving standards across the hospitality and events sectors.

Debbie Collins has been appointed as buddying lead within Beam’s newly established Action Group.

The group is designed to support the association’s core pillars of resilience, innovation, ethics, and quality.

As an Action Group lead, Collins will work alongside board directors to drive membership initiatives and support the delivery of industry-wide projects.

The appointments come as The Belfry continues an £85m+ expansion project, which includes the opening of the 920-capacity Masters Suite in September 2025 and the recent launch of “The Club,” a new fitness and wellness facility.

Niland said: “Beam is one of our sector’s most respected industry associations. I’m delighted that The Belfry have taken up central membership roles, playing an active role within the organisation and helping shape industry discussions and initiatives.”

David Tremmil, chair of Beam, added: “It’s fantastic to welcome Katie to the board and Debbie as an Action Group lead. Both bring real depth of experience from across our sector and an energy that will be invaluable in helping to elevate Beam’s exposure.”

News Analysis

The recent appointments of Katie Niland and Debbie Collins to Beam underscore The Belfry Hotel and Resort’s strategic alignment with the evolving landscape of the hospitality sector. This association mirrors past shifts, such as when the organisation transitioned from HBAA to Beam in late 2021, seeking to fortify its identity and advocate for its members more effectively, as documented in the change to a new brand identity.

Niland’s role as a board member comes during a significant period for Beam, which has undergone considerable restructuring and seen highs in membership engagement and event participation. The recent appointments of four new directors in October 2023 reflect a broader strategy aimed at diversifying the board’s expertise to tackle industry challenges head-on, as reported in new board director appointments.

By embedding leaders like Niland and Collins within Beam’s frameworks focusing on resilience and innovation, The Belfry asserts its role in shaping industry standards at a time when the sector grapples with recovery and transformation. This strategy links back to Beam’s pivotal partnerships formed over the years and reflects a continued push for a united voice and enhanced influence within the marketplace, as highlighted in partnership announcements.

The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
