First UK Handwritten Collection hotel to launch in Chester

Handwritten Collection has announced the signing of The Queen at Chester Hotel, marking the brand’s first opening in the UK.

The hotel is expected to open this summer following a developer-led renovation project. It will feature 218 guest rooms, the V&A Restaurant, a lounge, a bar, and a terrace.

The property also includes seven meeting spaces, a ballroom for up to 400 delegates, as well as a fitness centre.

Located opposite Chester Railway Station, the hotel sits 10 minutes from the city centre. The site also offers access to the city’s Roman walls, medieval cathedral, and Roman amphitheatre.

Built in 1860 as a gateway for rail travellers, the Italianate building once hosted author Charles Dickens.

The Handwritten Collection brand launched in 2023 and has since grown to more than 40 hotels in 20 countries.

The signing marks Accor’s first partnership with LGH Hotel Management under a franchising agreement.

Development vice president for UK and Ireland at Accor, Graham Dodd, said: “This latest addition is testament to our strong ambition for the UK market, where we see strong potential for Handwritten Collection as well as continued expansion for many more Accor brands.

“This hotel encapsulates everything the Handwritten Collection brand celebrates: individuality, local personality and hospitality delivered with heart. Alongside being the first Handwritten in the UK, this debut also marks the continuation of the collection’s impressive growth across Europe and beyond.”

CEO of LGH Hotel Management, Andrew Munt, added: “The Queen at Chester’s individuality, heritage and character sit at the heart of the hotel, and partnering with Accor allows us to protect that identity while benefiting from a powerful global commercial platform.

“We look forward to working together to ensure this exceptional heritage property is a long‑term success, blending historic character with contemporary hospitality.”

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
