The Strand Palace Hotel in London has announced the appointment of Jill van Rest as its new general manager, who will be tasked with leading the Covent Garden property after managing director Matthew Beard.
According to management, van Rest is the first woman to hold the GM position at the hotel since 1998. She previously spent six years at the property shaping operations, team culture and guest satisfaction.
During the pandemic, van Rest managed the transition of the property into accommodation for military key workers. Her initiatives later helped the hotel move into the top 100 London hotels on TripAdvisor.
News of the appointment follows a £57m refurbishment at the property, which included a redesign of all 788 bedrooms and the addition of a new gym.
In November, the hotel expanded its meetings and events offering. The site added 12 new spaces to create 16 venues capable of hosting up to 250 guests.
Van Rest said: “It’s a privilege to step into the role of general manager at Strand Palace, and I’m proud to build on everything the team has already achieved. Having been part of the team for several years, this role means a great deal to me, moving from daily operational management to overseeing all areas of the business.
“I look forward to continuing to elevate every part of the guest journey, my focus over the next months will be to re-establish Strand Palace as a key location for meetings and events in Central London and working with the fantastic colleagues at Iconic Hotels and Resorts to make this beautiful hotel even more successful.”
