A new Premier Inn has opened a new site on the Bognor Regis seafront following a community launch event attended by local officials.
The 116-bedroom hotel is located on The Esplanade at the junction with Clarence Road. It features the brand’s latest generation rooms and premium ‘Premier Plus’ options, with several overlooking the beach.
The site includes an all-day restaurant called The Social on the ground floor. The facility features a large covered terrace for guests and residents, which is one of only two such spaces operated by the chain in the UK.
Whitbread acquired the site in 2022 and received planning permission from Arun District Council in November 2023. Construction was led by principal contractor Carter Lauren.
The opening has created 30 jobs. The company worked with the local job centre to fill the majority of these positions. Staff are enrolled in the firm’s apprenticeship programme as part of their employment.
The project is part of a wider expansion by Whitbread along the south coast. The group opened a hotel in Hastings in December 2025 and is currently constructing sites in Littlehampton and Brighton.
Sarah Holland, hotel manager, said: “We are so excited to have finally opened the doors to our stunning new seafront hotel. The hotel is in an amazing location, and we have a fantastic all-day restaurant, bar and terrace space where we hope to welcome lots of guests.”
Alison Griffiths, member of parliament for Bognor Regis and Littlehampton, added: “It is fantastic to see this major investment in Bognor Regis and our seafront. This new Premier Inn will bring new jobs, support local businesses, and attract more visitors to the town.”
Freddie Tandy, chair of Arun District Council, concluded: “The arrival of such a well-known and respected brand like Premier Inn onto the heart of Bognor Regis seafront is such a boost for a town and area that still rely heavily on tourism.”
News Analysis
The recent opening of a Premier Inn on the Bognor Regis seafront follows a well-established pattern in Whitbread’s strategy, emphasising locations with strong tourism potential. This mirrors Whitbread’s November 2023 planning consent for the site, which indicates a focused effort to capitalise on leisure travel, echoing similar expansions seen in Hastings, where a Premier Inn opened in December 2025.
Whitbread’s approach has historically revolved around identifying areas ripe for economic rejuvenation. The Bognor Regis investment, touted at £13 million, aligns with prior projects aimed at revitalising coastal towns, such as the openings in seaside locations in 2021, which aimed to balance the seasonal nature of tourism by providing consistent year-round employment.
The new hotel’s strategic significance lies not just in the creation of 30 new roles, but in promoting the entire local economy through tourism while supporting community-focused initiatives. This is underscored by Whitbread’s prior success in developing local relationships, suggesting that their model effectively boosts both brand appeal and community benefits without overextending corporate ambitions.
