Thwaites has officially completed the final phase of a £1.2m transformation at The Royal Oak in Keswick, to coincide with the start of the Lake District’s summer events.
The 18th Century coaching inn, which has reopened its bar and restaurant following a brief closure, features 18 redesigned bedrooms and updated bathrooms.
According to Thwaites, the rooms’ interior decor was inspired by the heritage and rural setting of the building, which includes open fires and a restaurant serving locally sourced food.
The renovation concludes a long-term investment project by the owners, which was designed to protect the character of the building while modernising guest facilities.
The property is situated near Derwentwater and serves as a central hub for visitors attending the Keswick Mountain Festival (15 – 17 May).
Other local events scheduled for the year include the Keswick Beer Festival and the Victorian Fayre in December. The inn is also located near the Theatre by the Lake, which hosts a year-round programme of drama and comedy.
