Capella Hotel Group appoints new president

Capella Hotel Group has announced Roland Fasel will serve as its new president, starting 6 April.

According to Capella, Fasel will ensure continued “operational excellence and brand integrity” across Capella and Patina Hotels and Resorts, leading efforts to expand the group’s portfolio twofold by 2030.

He will additionally focus on building brand awareness in new markets such as the Middle East and Europe, while enhancing guest experiences that boost global recognition and brand loyalty.

He steps into his new role with a more than 30 year career of senior roles at international luxury hotel brands.

Most recently, he was group chief operating officer at London’s Maybourne Hotel Group, where he oversaw Claridge’s, The Connaught, The Berkeley, The Maybourne Beverly Hills, and The Maybourne Riviera.

Before Maybourne, he served as chief operating officer at Aman Resorts, where he managed global property launches such as Amanyangyun in China, Aman Kyoto in Japan and Aman New York.

Fasel also served as general manager at Badrutt’s Palace in St. Moritz, where he headed an $80m (£59.5m) repositioning that restored the hotel’s profitability and market leadership.

He additionally played a key role in the opening of the Dorchester Collection, serving nine years as general manager of The Dorchester and UK regional director responsible for Coworth Park and 45 Park Lane.

Capella hotels currently runs six Forbes Five-Star properties among its 12 hotels.

Commenting on Fasel’s appointment, Capella vice chairman Evan Kwee said: “Roland brings the rare combination of strategic vision and operational expertise to lead Capella Hotel Group through its next chapter of growth.

“He has transformed iconic properties by elevating both culture and performance – proving that excellence in luxury hospitality is both an art and a discipline. As we expand globally, we need a leader who can strengthen our competitive position while deepening the culture that differentiates us.”
