IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced the signing of Kimpton Salzburg, marking the brand’s entry into Austria, with an expected opening in mid-2028.

IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed an agreement to open a Kimpton hotel in Salzburg, Austria, in partnership with tristar Austria GmbH. The hotel is scheduled to open in mid-2028 and will be the first Kimpton-branded property in Austria. This development is part of IHG’s strategy to expand its luxury lifestyle brand presence in Europe, where it currently operates 12 Kimpton hotels and has six more in development.

The Kimpton Salzburg will be part of a redevelopment project led by Midstad. The project will include a 119-room hotel, along with high-end retail units and other shops. The hotel will be located on the banks of the Salzach River, providing access to key transport routes and proximity to Salzburg’s cultural district, which includes landmarks, festivals, and attractions.

The hotel will feature a variety of guest rooms, including 11 suites with views of the river and the castle. Amenities will include a fitness center, wellness area with a sauna, relaxation rooms, and versatile meeting spaces suitable for events and gatherings.

This signing is part of IHG’s broader expansion in the DACH region, which encompasses Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. IHG currently has over 5,000 rooms open and in development across this region. In Austria alone, IHG operates 14 hotels under various brands, with five additional properties in the pipeline.

The collaboration with tristar Austria marks the first luxury hotel partnership between the two companies, highlighting their commitment to expanding in premier destinations.
