Travelodge has begun construction of an 80-room hotel in Douglas, its first on the Isle of Man.
The budget hotel chain, which operates more than 610 sites across the UK, Ireland and Spain, is building the property at Villiers Square on Fort Street. The site is 300 metres from the ferry terminal and close to the beach, shopping district, central business district and Manx Museum.
The development forms part of a wider mixed-use scheme led by Tevir Group, which also includes two Grade-A office buildings aimed at supporting local economic growth.
The hotel will feature Travelodge’s latest premium design, with a modern reception, next-generation rooms and an 85 Bar Café.
Due to open in spring 2027, the hotel is expected to create 27 jobs and contribute to the Isle of Man government’s tourism strategy to add 500 new hotel rooms by 2032.
UK development director Tony O’Brien said: “Breaking ground on our first hotel in Douglas is a significant milestone for Travelodge. We’ve long wanted to bring our quality, affordable accommodation to the Isle of Man, and this fantastic location at Villiers Square is the ideal setting.
“It’s exciting to see construction now underway, marking the beginning of a new chapter for us on the island. We look forward to welcoming both leisure and business guests when the hotel opens its doors.”
