Travelodge has acquired two hotels in Burton-upon-Trent and Glasgow Cumbernauld as part of its UK expansion strategy, adding 125 rooms to its portfolio.
The properties, formerly trading under the Go2 brand, are on 25-year leases and the group is refurbishing them under its multi-million pound rebrand programme.
The upgrade includes redesigned reception areas, updated interiors and next generation bedrooms.
The Burton-upon-Trent site, located in the town centre near the railway station, will operate with 68 rooms and on-site parking. It will also include a Bar Café.
Meanwhile, the 57-room Glasgow Cumbernauld hotel sits off the M80 and provides access to Glasgow, Falkirk and Stirling.
Travelodge said the acquisitions show “its focus on rebrand opportunities as a sustainable way to grow, avoiding new construction while accelerating openings”.
The company, which operates more than 600 hotels across the UK, Ireland and Spain, has identified over 300 further locations in the UK where it believes there is “sufficient demand” for new sites.
Tony O’Brien, UK development director, said: “These acquisitions reflect the continued momentum behind our rebrand-led strategy, which is enabling us to deliver high-quality, great-value hotels for our customers more quickly and sustainably than new builds.”
