The Wesley Camden, a central London hotel, has been awarded a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating in recognition of its environmental performance and heritage-led design.
The hotel achieved the rating from the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method, reflecting measures taken to reduce energy and water use while retaining and reusing historic features of the building.
The hotel operates entirely on electricity, removing the use of gas, and uses a building management system that preheats rooms only when required. Water-saving devices have also been installed throughout the property to reduce consumption.
As part of the refurbishment, fixtures and fittings were selected in line with the Green Guide to Specification, while original elements including parquet flooring, balcony metalwork and stained glass windows were retained and repurposed.
Thermal upgrades were carried out to improve energy efficiency, and bat boxes were installed to support local biodiversity.
The Wesley Camden joins its sister hotel in Euston, which was recently awarded Eco-Smart Platinum status, as part of the group’s wider focus on environmental responsibility.
