Work has begun on a substantial investment project to restore the Ship and Castle Hotel in St Mawes following its acquisition by the BH Group.
The landmark harbour front property is undergoing a comprehensive redesign and rebranding programme. The project is expected to support 75 year-round full and part-time roles.
Plans for the hotel include 56 bedrooms alongside a new reception area, bar, lounge, restaurant, and café. A new spa featuring a hydrotherapy pool and salt room is also planned.
The hotel closed at the end of the autumn half term for the refit. Building specialist Sureflow has been awarded the contract for the renovation of the site.
BH Group acquired the property last year as part of a regional growth strategy. The company previously completed a £7.5m extension of St Michaels Resort in Falmouth.
The group expects to begin the first phase of reopening in summer 2026. A full opening of the hotel and its facilities is scheduled for early autumn.

“Following that success, we are pleased to be making a further substantial investment in the area and are delighted to award the contract to Sureflow, one of the best local contractors. The Ship and Castle is an iconic hotel with significant untapped potential, and we are excited to transform this landmark asset into a much-loved coastal gem.”
