St Andrews boutique hotel opens bookings following £7.5m renovation

Bookings have opened for a new 44-bed boutique hotel in St Andrews following a £7.5m redevelopment of three 19th Century townhouses.

The Kithmore, located on Playfair Terrace and is set to open in June, occupies a site originally designed by architect George Rae in 1847. The property has undergone a full restoration to preserve original features within the local conservation area.

A new extension has added four bedrooms to the site, while two additional rooms were created in the former Pilmour Bar. The hotel includes a standalone bar and restaurant with a street-level entrance and a landscaped terrace.

Management said the project involved the reinstatement of historic planters and the restoration of original stonework and timber panelling. The property previously served as student housing and was requisitioned by the War Department during the Second World War.

Recruitment for senior management positions is underway, with front-line hiring expected to begin ahead of the summer opening.

General manager Kathryn McNairn said: “From the very beginning, The Kithmore has been about creating a refined yet welcoming retreat, rooted in the character of St Andrews and delivered to the highest design specification throughout.

“Inspired by the Scots word ‘kith’, meaning friendship and familiarity, we have designed a luxurious boutique hotel that feels elegant but never formal – a true home from home. Whether guests are here to play world-class golf, explore the town, enjoy exceptional food or simply slow down and relax, our hotel offers a thoughtful alternative to larger resorts, with quality, comfort and attention to detail at its heart. As we head towards our opening in June, we’re now open for bookings and recruiting the team who will bring this vision to life.”

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
