Scandic Hotels has signed a lease for a new alpine hotel in Sälen, Sweden, set to open for the 2027/2028 winter season.

Scandic Hotels is expanding its presence in Sweden with a new property in the ski resort area of Sälen. The hotel, currently under development, will feature 120 rooms and 16 apartments, along with conference facilities. It is strategically located between the ski areas of Tandådalen and Hundfjället, known for family-friendly and advanced ski slopes.

The property is being developed in partnership with Lima Besparingsskog and is positioned to provide direct ski-in, ski-out access. This location choice aligns with Scandic’s strategy to enhance its footprint in Nordic countries by tapping into popular and high-demand destinations. Sälen is recognized as one of Scandinavia’s largest ski areas and attracts a mix of Swedish, Nordic, and international visitors.

In addition to winter sports, the area has seen an increase in interest in summer activities like hiking and cycling, making the hotel a year-round destination. The hotel design will incorporate classic alpine elements with a wooden façade and balconies that offer mountain views. Plans for the hotel also include a wellness area complete with a sauna, gym, and a pool that extends from indoors to outdoors.

A new ski lift will facilitate easy transport from the hotel to the ski slopes, enhancing the guest experience. The ground floor will feature large windows to maximize natural light in the lobby, restaurant, and bar areas, and multiple fireplaces are planned to create a cozy ambiance.

Sustainability is a key focus for the new hotel, which will operate under the Nordic Swan Ecolabel to ensure minimal environmental impact. This certification reflects the hotel’s commitment to using eco-labeled products and chemicals, utilizing 100% renewable electricity, reducing water consumption, and minimizing food waste.
