Saudi Arabia is set to host the 26th session of the United Nations Tourism General Assembly in Riyadh from November 7 to 11, 2023. The event will mark the 50th anniversary of the UN’s specialized agency for tourism and will focus on the theme “AI-Powered Tourism: Redefining the Future.”
The assembly will bring together representatives from over 160 member states, international organizations, and industry stakeholders to discuss the future of the tourism sector. The agenda includes four General Assembly plenaries, meetings of specialized committees, and a thematic session on the implications of artificial intelligence in tourism. Additionally, the election of the next UN Tourism Secretary-General will take place during the event.
Saudi Arabia, represented by its Ministry of Tourism, will become the first Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) country to host a UN agency’s general assembly. The event is seen as an opportunity for Saudi Arabia to serve as a platform for international tourism dialogue.
Following the General Assembly, Saudi Arabia will launch the TOURISE Summit from November 11 to 13. The summit aims to bring together leaders from the public and private sectors across tourism, technology, investment, sustainability, and culture. The objective is to address global challenges and explore opportunities in the travel and tourism sector, with a focus on sustainability and future-readiness.
