Grand Sierra Resort has started construction on a 10,000-seat arena as part of a $1 billion redevelopment project in Reno, Nevada.

Grand Sierra Resort (GSR) has initiated the construction of a new 10,000-seat arena, marking the first phase of a $1 billion redevelopment project in Reno, Nevada. This development represents the largest private capital investment in the city’s history.

The GSR Arena, with a projected cost of $435 million, will cover 300,000 square feet. It is designed to include hospitality clubs, suites, and a central plaza focused on fan engagement. The arena is expected to host approximately 95 events annually and will serve as the future home of the Nevada Men’s Basketball team. The completion of the arena is anticipated in the fall of 2027.

The redevelopment plan also includes a 2,800-space parking garage, a new community ice center, and future expansions for housing and hotel facilities. The arena and its related developments are projected to generate between $850 million and $1.135 billion in direct economic impact, with total benefits estimated between $1.34 billion and $1.8 billion over 28 years, according to a financial analysis conducted by Hunden Partners for the City of Reno.

The arena is part of a decade-long redevelopment strategy by GSR, aiming to enhance the sports and entertainment infrastructure in northern Nevada. The project is expected to make a significant contribution to the local economy and serve as a catalyst for further growth in the region.

The initiative reflects a strategic investment in Reno’s development as a destination for sports, entertainment, and hospitality. The arena’s construction is seen as a pivotal step in this long-term plan, with additional phases to follow, including the reimagined Grand Bay aquatic golf facility and a fan-centric central plaza.
