A 140-bedroom hotel in the north-east has been sold off market to private investors in a deal handled by hotel sector advisers.
The Sporting Lodge Inn, around 4.5 miles south of Middlesbrough town centre and close to the A19 in Stainton, was acquired for an undisclosed sum.
The sale forms part of retirement plans by the property’s long-term owners, who had operated the business since 2004.
The hotel includes an open-plan reception, bar and 180-cover restaurant, a banqueting suite for up to 250 guests and a meeting room for 30 delegates. The freehold also comprises a leisure club with a fitness gym, 25-metre swimming pool and wellness facilities for guests alongside a sizeable external membership.
Simon Stevens, founder of Simon Stevens Associates, who helped broker the deal, said: “Amid strong competitive interest, we selected this investor because of their financial strength and proven track record in completing transactions.
“As established investors within the UK hotel sector, the Sporting Lodge Inn aligns with their ongoing expansion strategy. We continue to see strong interest from well-funded strategic investors, both domestic and international, who are actively seeking hotels with potential for repositioning.”
Gavin Wright, founder of Enterprise Hotels and Hospitality, added: “We are delighted to have completed the sale of the Sporting Lodge Inn to private investors. Having been under the same ownership since 2004, this transaction marks the close of an important chapter and the start of an exciting new era.
“We believe the hotel presents significant value-added opportunities for the new owners to enhance and grow the business further.”
The Sporting Lodge Inn is a venue for conferences, weddings and social events across Teesside, North Yorkshire and the wider north-east. It sits near major employment hubs and Teesside University, and its grounds provide parking for about 280 vehicles.
The buyer and vendor were not named. Howes Percival advised the buyer, while Shoosmiths represented the vendor.
