Meliá Hotels International, in collaboration with Grupo Puntacana, has broken ground on the development of Meliá Bergantín Beach in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. The project is part of a strategic initiative to enhance the region’s tourism appeal and is supported by financial institutions Banco de Reservas and Banco Popular.
The Meliá Bergantín Beach project is situated within Punta Bergantín, a tourism complex backed by a government trust and developed by Grupo Reservas and the Ministry of Tourism. The initiative covers an area of over 10 million square meters, focusing on low-density urban development to preserve the natural environment.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the hotel took place on October 21, attended by key figures including Gabriel Escarrer, Chairman and CEO of Meliá Hotels International, and Frank Elías Rainieri, CEO of Grupo Puntacana. Representatives from Banco de Reservas and Banco Popular, as well as the Executive Director of the project, were also present.
Meliá Bergantín Beach is planned to be a five-star hotel featuring 400 rooms. The hotel will offer various amenities, including dining options, a beach club, pools, a spa, and areas for children. Additionally, it will cater to the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) segment with dedicated facilities and services.
