UK real estate and investment company, Lamington Group, has expanded its portfolio of sustainable spaces with the acquisition of Shire Hall in Cambridge.
Following the exchange of contracts for a 250-year lease of Cambridgeshire County Council’s former headquarters, Lamington Group is looking to achieve planning for this to become another net-zero asset.
On Monday, 9 June, Cambridge Apartment Hotels Ltd, a subsidiary of B-Corp Lamington Group, exchanged contracts on a lease agreement for Shire Hall, which is expected to be completed within the next 18 months.
Shire Hall will add to Lamington’s portfolio of net-zero properties, which it operates throughout the UK with current live sites in London, Belfast, and Southampton. Lamington will now start work on the planning application process to transform the existing offices into premium accommodation.
Robert Godwin, co-founder and CEO of Lamington Group, said: “We are proud to have acquired the historic Shire Hall site, a landmark of immense significance to the city of Cambridge. Our vision is to sensitively restore and reimagine these iconic buildings, creating a destination that honours the site’s heritage while introducing a new chapter of hospitality, culture, and community, with sustainability and wellbeing at its heart.

In February 2024, BNP Paribas Real Estate relaunched the marketing of Shire Hall, along with the adjoining Octagon building, the former registry office at Castle Lodge, and the Old Police Station, following the collapse of a previously agreed sale.
