James Dixon-Box, operations director at the Marsham Court Hotel in Bournemouth, has been appointed as the UK government’s new Disability and Access ambassador for the hospitality sector.
The Disability and Access Ambassador programme is supported by the Cabinet Office Disability Unit and aims to help businesses remove barriers for disabled people
The government said his appointment was a significant step in raising awareness of accessibility within the UK’s hospitality sector.
In the national role, Dixon-Box will work with businesses, industry leaders and government departments to promote accessibility and inclusion across the hospitality industry
He will also work with stakeholders nationwide to share best practice and promote inclusive initiatives.
His appointment recognises his personal advocacy and the work undertaken at the Marsham Court Hotel, which has introduced accessible features including Changing Places facilities and adapted bedrooms.
Dixon-Box said: “I am deeply honoured to be taking on this important role. Hospitality should be welcoming to everyone, and that means ensuring accessibility is embedded not just in facilities, but in attitudes and service. I look forward to collaborating with others in the industry to drive meaningful change.”
