IHG Hotels and Resorts has announced plans to open its first InterContinental hotel in Manchester, following a deal to rebrand the Beetham Tower property currently operated by Blue Manchester Hotel Limited.
InterContinental Manchester – Deansgate will become the fifth InterContinental hotel in IHG’s UK and Ireland portfolio. The 264-room hotel is expected to complete its rebranding by 2027 and will remain open throughout the refurbishment.
Located on Deansgate in central Manchester, the hotel occupies 22 floors of the 47-storey Beetham Tower. It will feature a ground floor bar and restaurant, an indoor pool, sauna, steam room, fitness centre and 18 meeting rooms offering 1,821 square metres of event space.
The move expands IHG’s luxury and lifestyle presence in the region, adding to its existing 27 open hotels in the segment. It also builds on the group’s footprint of 363 open hotels and 33 in development across the UK and Ireland.
InterContinental Manchester – Deansgate will join 34 InterContinental properties currently open in Europe and nine more in the pipeline, including upcoming openings in Serbia and France.
Willemijn Geels, vice president of development, Europe, at IHG Hotels and Resorts, said: “The signing of InterContinental Manchester – Deansgate marks a significant milestone in our UK and Ireland development strategy as we bring the world’s first and most iconic luxury hotel brand to an important city in the UK.
“The landmark signing further strengthens IHG’s luxury and lifestyle portfolio in the UK and perfectly complements our Kimpton Clocktower property – reinforcing our position as the leading luxury hospitality player in Manchester.”
A spokesperson for Blue Manchester Hotel Limited said: “This transition marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for this iconic Manchester hotel. We are delighted to be collaborating with IHG Hotels and Resorts to reposition the property as an InterContinental hotel – one of the most prestigious brands in global hospitality.
