The Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) has revealed plans to expand its footprint in the North East region. The announcement comes in the form of a public-private partnership with the Tripura Government to develop Taj Pushpabanta Palace in Agartala.

The palace, built in 1917 as a holiday home for the king and his guests, is set to be refurbished to reflect its historical significance. The development proposal includes 100 rooms, which will be housed in a newly built structure designed to pay homage to the heritage palace architecture. Select public areas and royal suites will be housed within the palace itself. The refurbishment and expansion are expected to be completed within three years.

The North East region, known for its natural beauty, is experiencing significant commercial and economic development.

As part of the partnership, IHCL has committed to investing Rs. 2500 crores in the region over the next three years. This investment reflects the company’s commitment to developing new tourist circuits and itineraries that align with regional development goals.

IHCL currently has nine operating hotels in the North East, including a multi-brand presence in the capital cities of Guwahati with a Vivanta and Ginger, Gangtok with Taj Guras Kutir Resort & Spa, Ginger and Tree of Life resort, a Vivanta hotel in Shillong and Tawang, Ginger in Agartala and a Vivanta in the leisure destination of Pakyong.

The company’s pipeline includes five upcoming hotels in Agartala, Itanagar, Guwahati, Jorhat and Dibrugarh. These developments are part of IHCL’s strategic roadmap, Accelerate 2030, which targets growing its multi-brand presence in the region to 30 hotels by 2030.
