Hotel Indigo Leeds is set to officially open on 15 July, located on Lower Briggate in one of the city centre’s oldest hotel buildings.
The hotel aims to bring a “stylish destination” to the hospitality scene, as its design draws heavily on Leeds’ industrial heritage and cultural history, with interiors by Franklin Ellis.
The front-of-house area features industrial elements and vintage sepia tones, including references to Louis Le Prince’s invention of the world’s first camera and the city’s tailoring heritage. Hotel rooms are designed around three themes: boardgames, textiles and film, each reflecting aspects of Leeds’ identity.
One theme is inspired by John Waddington, founder of the Waddingtons board game company, with rooms incorporating Monopoly motifs. Another pays tribute to the city’s textiles industry and tailoring history, while a third celebrates Leeds’ role in the early development of film and its nightlife.
A Mediterranean-inspired restaurant and bar, The Banksia, will also open alongside the hotel. Its design includes warm tones, greenery and artwork, with a menu featuring sharing plates and brunch dishes using local Yorkshire ingredients.
Meeting rooms continue the botanical theme, featuring dark timbers, brass details and a calm blue palette. These spaces will be available for events, private dining and conferences.
Nina Roberts-James, associate director at Franklin Ellis Architects, said: “Throughout the hotel, we’ve woven the essence of Leeds into every detail. From the moment guests step through the door, they’ll experience a space that celebrates the city’s rich heritage, thoughtfully blended with modern, playful touches. Our hope is that the people of Leeds will feel a sense of pride in what we’ve created.”
Simon Grace, general manager of Hotel Indigo Leeds, added: “The neighbourhood story informs every decision we make in the hotel and serves as a starting point for the design in all our hotels. In Leeds, we wanted to celebrate the city’s identity and what makes locals proud, highlighting our rich industrial history along with modern nightlife and music.
“We can’t wait to open our doors and welcome guests to experience the city through the eyes of locals and embed them in key pieces of Yorkshire history and culture.”
