Hilton opens The Marcus Portrush

Hilton has opened The Marcus Portrush, part of its Tapestry Collection, marking the brand’s debut in Northern Ireland.

Located in a restored Victorian building on Portrush’s Main Street, the 80-room hotel is the only internationally branded property in the town. The site previously operated as a hotel and artisan bakery for more than 85 years until the 1980s.

The new development follows an £11m renovation that preserved original features including tiled mosaics and a decorative façade.

Interiors feature illustrations and artefacts linked to his imagined travels. Children receive a complimentary storybook on arrival. The character also inspired the hotel’s logo and branding.

Facilities include an Asian fusion restaurant, Nemesis, offering dishes such as Irish sirloin steak with bone marrow butter and Korean bibimbap. The Heritage Cocktail Bar features Irish spirits and themed drinks including the Orra Margarita, named after a local scenic route.

Portrush sits on Northern Ireland’s Atlantic coast near the Giant’s Causeway and Bushmills Whiskey Distillery. The hotel is expected to benefit from the 153rd Open Championship, taking place at Royal Portrush Golf Club from 13–20 July 2025.

The Marcus Portrush was developed by Andras House, Northern Ireland’s largest hotel group, under a franchise agreement with Hilton. It is projected to generate £1.1m in annual visitor spending and create more than 40 permanent jobs.

Stephen Cassidy, senior vice president, UK and Ireland, Hilton, said: “Northern Ireland has seen a strong rise in tourism in recent years, drawing travellers from around the world to experience its unique charm. As the only internationally branded hotel in Portrush, The Marcus Portrush, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, offers high-quality accommodation with an authentic local touch – making it the perfect base for visitors eager to explore all that Northern Ireland has to offer.”

Rajesh Rana, director at Andras House, added: “Portrush has so much history and fond memories created here over the years, and our architects and designers have responded by delivering a scheme that embodies these stories in a modern style. This investment of £11 million will bring much-needed modern hotel accommodation to the area, helping to regenerate the Main Street of Portrush and secure its future as a must-go tourism destination.”

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
