Grand Metropolitan Hotels has revealed it is accelerating its international expansion into the Asia Pacific region, following a meeting with Vietnam’s prime minister to explore investment opportunities.
Chairman and founder Martin Smura and supervisory board member Philipp Rösler met Phạm Minh Chính in Hanoi for discussions focused on the country’s tourism and hotel real estate sectors.
The move follows the company’s recent entry into the UK market through the takeover of Signature Hotels. The Zurich-based firm currently operates in 46 countries.
Vietnam reported GDP growth of more than 8% in 2025. Smura and Rösler cited this economic performance and the local investment environment as key factors for potential cooperation.
The delegation also held talks with Nguyen Thanh Hung, chairman of Sovico Group. The private investment group has holdings in aviation, finance, and real estate development.
Sovico Group operates VietJet Air and is led by Nguyen and chief executive Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao. The firm is one of the most influential private players in Vietnam.
Smura said: “Grand Metropolitan Hotels continues to strengthen its position as a globally diversified hotel management company.”
Chính added: “Vietnam seeks to further strengthen cooperation with Swiss and European companies based on balanced interests.”
