Galgorm Castle submits plans for £14m restoration and hotel conversion

Galgorm Castle Education and Preservation Limited has submitted a planning application for a £14m regeneration project intended to create 215 jobs and a boutique hotel.

The proposal focuses on the restoration of the early 17th-century Jacobean castle, its stables, and courtyard.

Under the plans, the castle would be converted into a hotel operated by Galgorm Collection, while the estate’s ruined church would be transformed into a 60-seat heritage hub for performances.

A third element of the plan involves developing the Ploughman’s House into a 120-seat centre for traditional music and arts.

The project is expected to create 125 construction jobs and 90 permanent roles upon completion.

The estate aims to reinstate original paths and gardens to improve connectivity with the neighbouring UNESCO World Heritage Site at Gracehill.

The board of trustees stated that the holistic plan is designed to address the estate’s decline while maintaining its historical fabric.

Ian Paisley, chair of the trustees of GECP, said: “Our vision is to move beyond piecemeal development and address the estate’s decline through a single, holistic and genuinely transformative plan; one that respects Galgorm’s built fabric, honours its intangible heritage, and recognises the special place it holds in the heart of the community.

“Galgorm Castle is a jewel in the crown of our local heritage, and this project represents a once-in-century opportunity to secure its future. Our proposals show how sensitive commercial activity can sit alongside environmental protection and community benefit.”

He added: “Our aspiration is for Galgorm Castle and Estate to become a world-class destination, welcoming creative artists and performing groups from across the community, while also serving as a driver of sustainable local economic growth.”

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
