The EU Entry/Exit System (EES) has commenced its rollout across 29 European countries, requiring biometric data from travelers at borders. The system will be gradually implemented over six months.

The European Union has initiated the rollout of its Entry/Exit System (EES), which will digitize border controls across 29 countries. The system, launched on Sunday, mandates travelers to provide facial scans and fingerprints at border crossings. The implementation will occur over six months, gradually increasing the number of border crossings utilizing the system and the number of passengers required to submit biometric data.

The initial phase of the rollout has not reported significant disruptions, attributed to the limited number of locations currently operating the system. The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) is maintaining communication with the UK Government, the EU, and relevant transport hubs to monitor the system’s progress and provide updates to its members.

ABTA has been preparing its members for the EES implementation and offering guidance to travelers. Over the past month, the EES advice page on the ABTA website has been accessed 150,000 times, and social media content related to the system has reached over 330,000 views.

The organization has also engaged with national media to address public concerns and clarify the system’s impact on travel. ABTA’s Chief Executive, Mark Tanzer, noted that while the EES may initially extend processing times, it is expected to streamline travel procedures in the long term. ABTA has featured in over 200 media reports regarding the EES, including coverage by BBC national and regional outlets.

ABTA members can access detailed insights on the EES and related government communications through the ABTA Member Zone. The association will also discuss the EES at the upcoming World Travel Market event.

In related organizational updates, Edward Byrne has joined the ABTA Board, succeeding Jamie Gardiner as the representative for members with an annual Principal turnover below £50 million. Daniele Broccoli will continue his tenure on the Board.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
