EasyJet Opens Applications for 2026 Engineering Apprenticeships

EasyJet has opened applications for its 2026 engineering apprenticeship program, offering 40 positions across two intakes in April and October.

EasyJet has announced the opening of applications for its engineering apprenticeship program for 2026. The airline is offering 40 positions, with 20 apprenticeships starting in April 2026 and another 20 in October 2026. The program is available at easyJet’s major engineering bases, including Luton Airport, London Gatwick Airport, Manchester Airport, Liverpool Airport, Bristol Airport, Edinburgh Airport, and Glasgow Airport.

The initiative comes as the UK Civil Aviation Authority projects that 27% of the aircraft engineering workforce will retire within the next decade. In response, easyJet aims to attract young individuals to fill these upcoming vacancies and contribute to the future of aviation.

A recent survey commissioned by easyJet, involving 2,000 participants aged 16-24, revealed that 65% of respondents have never considered a career in engineering. The survey identified several barriers, including misconceptions about qualifications, with 59% of respondents believing they lack the necessary credentials. Additionally, 34% reported that engineering was not presented as a career option in school, and 21% cited cost concerns.

The survey also highlighted a gender disparity, with only 36% of young females considering a career in engineering compared to 52% of males in the same age group. Despite these challenges, there is a growing interest among young people in pursuing purpose-driven careers. Over half of the respondents expressed a desire for roles that benefit society, and 44% aspired to careers that address climate change. Engineering was identified by 43% of respondents as a field that could help achieve these goals through the development of lower-emission technologies.

EasyJet’s apprenticeship program aims to provide an accessible pathway into the engineering profession, offering hands-on experience and the opportunity to earn while learning. Applicants are required to have a minimum of two GCSEs at grade 3 or above, or equivalent Scottish Qualifications (SCQF Level 4) in English and Maths.

The program is part of a broader industry effort to address the skills gap in aviation engineering and aligns with government initiatives to increase apprenticeship opportunities for young people. As the demand for skilled engineers grows, easyJet’s program seeks to equip participants with the necessary skills and experience to succeed in the aviation sector.
