Corinthia Hotels has announced the appointment of Mohammed Wazir as general manager of Corinthia Gewan Island Qatar, the group’s first hotel for the brand in the region which is scheduled to open in early 2027.
Wazir returns to the group following general management roles with international hospitality companies including Anantara and Habitas. He previously led destination properties such as Banana Island Resort Doha and Al Baleed Resort Salalah.
The appointment marks a return to the brand for Wazir, who served as executive assistant manager during the opening of Corinthia London. He also held operational roles at five other group properties in Prague, St Petersburg, Malta and Tripoli.
Wazir will lead the pre-opening phase and full operational launch of the Qatar site. The project is located on Gewan Island and is being developed in partnership with UDC.
The project is part of a wider global expansion for the hotel group. This includes the development of Corinthia Dubai, which the company expects to open in 2030.
Simon P Casson, chief executive of Corinthia Hotels, said: “This appointment reflects Corinthia’s long-term commitment to leadership shaped from within the brand. Having worked across multiple Corinthia properties, Mohammed brings a deep, lived understanding of our culture, standards and values.”
