The City of London Corporation has approved plans for a new 180-bedroom luxury hotel at 27–28 Clements Lane, allowing JMK Group to redevelop a Grade II-listed Victorian building near Monument.
The scheme, designed by Studio Moren, will see the refurbishment and extension of the existing property, transforming what the developer described as an underused site into a luxury-branded hotel.
It marks JMK’s fourth hotel in London and its first move into the luxury-branded segment.
Construction is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2026, with the hotel scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2028. The site is located in the City of London’s Monument area, close to Bank station.
JMK said the project places a strong emphasis on conservation-led design and adaptive reuse, with the aim of preserving the building’s historic character while improving energy efficiency.
The development is targeting BREEAM Excellent and LEED Gold certifications.
The JMK Group has an established hotel portfolio across London and Ireland, with operations in Dublin, Cork and Waterford.
It also has several openings planned for early 2026, including hotels in Belfast and Dublin, alongside a luxury boutique hotel in Kensington and an active development in Galway.
Zain Kajani, director at JMK Group, said: “This project represents a significant milestone for JMK as we expand our London portfolio with a luxury branded hotel. From the outset we have prioritised sensitive restoration and sustainability, embedding conservation-led design and low-carbon strategies into every stage of the scheme.”
