Dutch hotel group CitizenM has opened its first Irish site in Dublin, bringing 245 rooms to the Liberties neighbourhood.
The new site, CitizenM Dublin St Patrick’s, is located opposite St Patrick’s Cathedral and housed in a Brutalist building designed by Irish architect Sam Stephenson. The structure has been refurbished by CitizenM’s in-house team.
The hotel features interiors furnished by Swiss design brand Vitra, a 24-hour canteenM dining space, an open-air terrace, and four meeting rooms under the societyM label, open to the public.
Each guestroom includes a diptych by one of five Irish artists, commissioned in collaboration with the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) and curated by Mary Cremin, IMMA’s head of programming.
Outside, the hotel’s facade displays a bronze-cast lyric by Dublin musician Malaki, alongside a mural by artist Claire Prouvost on the rear wall.
The site is within walking distance of Grafton Street, Temple Bar and the Creative Quarter.
CitizenM operates more than 30 hotels globally in cities like London, New York, Amsterdam, Miami, Los Angeles, Copenhagen and Seattle.
It comes after Marriott International reached an agreement at the end of April to acquire CitizenM, in a $355m (£266m) deal. The transaction is expected to accelerate Marriott’s global expansion of its select-service and lifestyle lodging offerings.
Under the deal the CitizenM portfolio forms part of Marriott’s system, with the hotels owned and leased by the seller subject to new long-term franchise agreements with Marriott. The brand’s current pipeline includes three under-construction hotels totaling over 600 rooms that are anticipated to open by mid-2026.
