The family-run Ardlui Resort, located on the banks of Loch Lomond, has been brought to market for more than £7m after over six decades of continuous ownership.
Brian St John, who first arrived at the Ardlui Hotel in 1959 as an 11-year-old boy, has spent his life developing the property into a multi-faceted retreat including a hotel, marina and holiday park. Now 77, St John and his family have placed the resort on the market as they prepare for retirement.
The 12-bedroom hotel, originally built as a hunting lodge in the late 1700s, is accompanied by a 100-berth marina, a holiday park licensed for 96 units, self-catering lodges, and two loch-side homes with potential for luxury lets.
St John first purchased the hotel lease with his parents in 1959 and went on to buy the site outright in 1978 alongside his wife Anne. The couple spent decades expanding the business, with Anne managing the kitchens and St John overseeing the marina and holiday park.
Much of the resort’s development, including the marina and lodges, grew from St John’s sailing hobby and a former yacht charter business he ran in the 1970s.
The resort sits at the northern tip of Loch Lomond, with access to public transport and views across the loch. It has changed hands only once in its 250-year history.
