Hospitality Beats Cancer initiative launches with £10m target

Leaders from the global hospitality sector have launched Hospitality Beats Cancer, a new initiative to fund life-saving research in partnership with Cancer Research UK.

The campaign aims to raise £10m through a series of international events involving hotel groups, restaurants, bars, and travel businesses.

Planned activities include a cricket match in Papua New Guinea, a charity walk along Hadrian’s Wall, and a music festival.

Participants will also attempt an endurance challenge consisting of four marathons in four days across four capital cities.

The initiative was launched at the London headquarters of Mishcon de Reya, attended by more than 150 senior industry figures.

The campaign is now seeking corporate partners, sponsors, and ambassadors from across the hospitality supply chain and entertainment sectors.

Current partners include Castlebridge Hospitality, CBRE, Cushman and Wakefield, Dean Street Developments, Europoint, HotelFinance, Hotel Partners Africa, HVS, JLL, Keystone Law, Leisure Property Services, NewDog PR, Palm Holdings, Savills, STR, and The Edinburgh Collection.

Cancer Research UK funds the work of more than 4,000 scientists, doctors, and nurses investigating more than 200 types of cancer. The charity has contributed to the development of the HPV vaccine and the prostate cancer drug abiraterone.

David Harper, chair of Hospitality Beats Cancer, said: “Hospitality is built around people coming together – and that’s exactly what this is about. We’re inviting individuals and businesses to get involved, have fun, create unforgettable events and make a real difference. Whether you’ve got a big fundraising idea or simply want to help, join us.”

Simon Ledsham, director of relationship management at Cancer Research UK, added: “We stand on the brink of discoveries that will transform how we understand and treat cancer. With the support of partners like Hospitality Beats Cancer, we can bring about a world where everybody can lead longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer.”
