Dundee hotel adds 15 jobs following £3.2m investment

The Invercarse Hotel has created 15 jobs and increased turnover by 10% since changing ownership in 2022.

It comes as the site has undergone a refurbishment of guest facilities and public spaces following a £3.2m funding package from Bank of Scotland.

Owners Sean Burke and Paul Brownlie used the finance to refinance the acquisition of the hotel and reinvest in upgrades. Improvements include the refurbishment of 25 guest bathrooms, refreshed event spaces, and new kitchen equipment for the Redwood Restaurant.

The hotel now hosts up to three private functions a day with capacity for 300 guests across four spaces. Management said the expansion supports increased demand from University of Dundee balls, charity fundraisers, and weddings.

The venue was recently named Banqueting Hotel of the Year at the National Hotels of the Year Scotland awards. It also received regional recognition for casual dining and family events.

The hotel is preparing for increased visitor numbers ahead of the return of The Open Championship to St Andrews in 2027. The venue reported a surge in room demand during the 2022 tournament.

Burke and Brownlie currently sponsor the local children’s charity Help for Kids Dundee and the Women’s Collective. Burke previously served as the general manager of the hotel before acquiring the business with Brownlie.

Burke said: “I began my career here following university, and worked my way to general manager through various roles. Paul was running a local restaurant for 10 years prior to joining the team as deputy manager. Between us, we bring almost 50 years industry experience to the hotel.

“We realised pretty quickly we were on the same page. When the chance came to buy the hotel, we went for it and haven’t looked back since. We’ve modernised the place, built a brilliant team and brought in a lot of new customers.”

Bank of Scotland relationship director Andy McKie said: “Sean and Paul know this hotel inside out, they’ve grown up in the industry and it shows in the way they run things. It’s been great to help them invest in the business and we’re excited to see what they do next, especially with The Open on the horizon.”

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
