Black Sheep Hotels has opened the Ambassador Hotel in Inverness following a £6m investment to refurbish the former Strathness House Hotel.
The hotel, which opened on 17 January 2026, is set within two Victorian townhouses on Ardross Terrace overlooking the River Ness.
Dating back to 1874, the buildings have been restored to create a fourteen-room boutique hotel, marking the latest addition to the Black Sheep Hotels portfolio.
The refurbishment has retained key original features, including the external façade and staircases, while updating the interiors with a mix of period details, antiques and contemporary design.
The hotel’s rooms and suites are individually designed and themed around 19th Century travel and the Scottish landscape.
The opening also includes the launch of Talk of the Town, a new continental and Indian restaurant located within the hotel, and The Other Room, a library-style bar.
Talk of the Town takes its name from a Bombay restaurant established in 1968 and introduces a Scottish-Indian dining concept to Inverness.
The restaurant is led by corporate executive chef Sinclair Pinto, who has previously worked in Michelin-starred kitchens.
The menu combines Scottish and continental dishes with Indian influences, using locally sourced produce.
Seafood is supplied by local fishmonger Iain Stewart, with meat sourced from Lochaber Larder.
The drinks offering includes a wine and spirits list curated for the library bar, alongside cocktails developed by Antwerp-based mixologist Paul Morel.
The Ambassador Hotel is located within walking distance of Inverness Castle, St Andrew’s Cathedral and Eden Court Theatre.
