A fire at Hove’s Imperial Hotel forced the evacuation of guests and staff on Tuesday (23 December) afternoon, with one person later treated for injuries.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said it received repeated calls at 3.11pm on 23 December to reports of smoke on the fourth floor of the hotel in First Avenue. Crews attending the scene confirmed there was a fire in a fourth-floor room.
Because the Imperial Hotel is a high-rise building, multiple fire engines were sent to the scene. Firefighters used one main jet, an aerial ladder platform and breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze, while guests and staff were evacuated as a precaution.
Police and ambulance services were also alerted. Fire crews remained at the hotel for several hours, cutting away and damping down to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.
One person received treatment for injuries at the scene. No further casualties were reported.
Crews left the scene at about 7.27pm. A fire investigation carried out the following morning concluded the fire was accidental and caused by a fault with an extractor fan.
