Brown Books Publishing Group has published “Hidden Hospitality: Untold Stories of Black Hotel, Motel, and Resort Owners from the Pioneer Days to the Civil Rights Era,” authored by Calvin Stovall Jr. The book aims to document the significant yet often overlooked contributions of Black entrepreneurs in the hospitality industry.

The publication contains over 125 vintage black-and-white photographs and introduces readers to individuals who provided accommodations to underserved communities. These entrepreneurs also created spaces that served as hubs for civic organizations during pivotal moments in American history.

The book was supported financially by several organizations, including the AHLA Foundation, Salamander Collection, Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board, Southeast Tourism Society, and Washington Hospitality Association.

Calvin Stovall Jr., the author, has a background in the hospitality industry, having worked for Hilton Worldwide and holding a Master of Professional Studies from Cornell University’s Nolan School of Hotel Administration. His career spans roles in both the hospitality and nonprofit sectors.

“Hidden Hospitality” seeks to bring to light the stories of Black hospitality leaders and their impact on American society, offering insights into a previously underrepresented segment of the industry’s history.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
