Leonardo Hotels has acquired two existing properties in Hanover from Essendi, a European hotel investor and operator, with plans to rebrand them as the Leonardo Hannover Medical Park.
The deal gives Leonardo Hotels a third presence in the city and expands its position in the regional hotel and conferencing market. The two properties – formerly a Mercure Hotel and an Ibis Hotel – will be combined into a single site with 208 rooms.
Located in the Hannover Medical Park, a hub for research, healthcare and business, the newly-branded hotel is intended to cater to business travellers, event guests and international visitors.
The Mercure-based part of the hotel reopened on 1 July, while the ibis-based section is due to reopen in the fourth quarter of 2025 following a refurbishment.
The refurbishment will be overseen by designer Andreas Neudahm, who has worked on numerous Leonardo Hotels. Facilities at the Leonardo Hannover Medical Park will include restaurants, bars, a lounge with a billiards area, an outdoor pool, a gym and an events space.
The hotel will also feature seven function rooms totalling 381 square metres, with the largest accommodating up to 140 people. Once fully operational, Leonardo will have three hotels and almost 30 conference rooms in Hanover.
Yoram Biton, managing director for Central Europe at Leonardo Hotels, said: “This strategic move sends out a clear signal in Hanover and across the wider region. We are strengthening our local presence and underlining our long-term commitment to the German market.”
Jan Heringa, vice president of development and project management, added: “This acquisition adds a hotel of great potential to our portfolio. This new location is a perfect complement to our long-term growth strategy on the German market.”
